🚨 JUST NOW: CAITLIN CLARK WAS ASKED ABOUT HER FUTURE — HER ANSWER SAYS A LOT

Caitlin Clark had a simple message for Indiana Fever fans Thursday.

She wants to win.

But when asked about the massive contract extension that could reshape her future in Indiana, Clark did something many expected her to avoid: she refused to rush the decision.

During her 2026 season exit interview, Clark was asked about the possibility of signing an EPIC extension under the WNBA's new contract rules. Rather than treating the decision as simply a question of how much money she could command, Clark repeatedly brought the conversation back to one thing — building a team capable of winning championships.

“I’m going to be here.”

That part was clear.

But the rest of her answer was much more intriguing.

Clark explained that the decision has to take into account the Fever's salary-cap situation, which players the organization needs to retain and which pieces could help turn Indiana into a championship contender.

In other words, she isn't looking at the contract in isolation.

She's looking at the entire roster.

And that could make the offseason considerably more interesting.

Clark specifically identified Kelsey Mitchell's future as a major priority. Mitchell is entering unrestricted free agency after nine seasons in Indiana, and Clark made no secret about where she stands.

She wants Mitchell back.

Clark said the team would recruit Mitchell “as hard as we can” and emphasized how important she is to Indiana's success. She even expressed hope that Mitchell could remain in Indianapolis for the rest of her career.

That matters because Mitchell took enormous pressure off Clark during the 2026 season.

Clark finished third in the WNBA in scoring at 22.3 points per game while ranking second in assists at 8.3 per game, helping the Fever return to the playoffs after Clark's injury-limited 2025 season.

But Indiana's season ended in the first round against Las Vegas.

Now Clark is looking forward rather than backward.

She said she plans to spend the offseason watching film, identifying weaknesses, experimenting with new skills and simply playing more basketball. She also said she feels there is still plenty of room for improvement.

And that's perhaps the most interesting part of the entire interview.

Clark isn't talking like someone satisfied with becoming one of the league's biggest stars.

She's talking like someone who believes Indiana still has unfinished business.

Her comments also come at a fascinating moment for the Fever.

The team has a young core featuring Clark and Aliyah Boston, while Mitchell's free agency could dramatically affect the roster. Clark acknowledged that she already communicates with general manager Amber Cox about potential players and what types of teammates could fit alongside the existing core — while making clear that the final decisions belong to the front office.

So the biggest question entering the offseason may not simply be:

“Will Caitlin Clark sign her extension?”

It may be:

“What will Indiana build around her?”

Because Clark's latest comments suggest that her priority isn't maximizing one contract.

It's maximizing the Fever's chances of winning.

And if Indiana can give its franchise star the roster she believes can compete for championships, the next chapter could look very different.

The contract can wait. The championship chase clearly cannot.
